What a Skyborne Name Is
Warcraft Wiki places the Skyborne as Highborne exiles of Eldre’Thalas, also called the shen’dorei, the hidden people. They speak Darnassian and made a pact with the wind spirits of Skywall, and the race is neutral, so either faction can play one. Every part of that shows up in the names: the elven vowels in the front half, the air and weather in the back half.
That combination is the reason this page exists as its own list. A night elf surname closes on moon, leaf and shade; a Skyborne surname closes on gale, breeze and wing. Put the two pools together and the mix reads as a name from neither tradition.
How Skyborne First Names Are Built
A Skyborne first name is assembled from three pieces: a start such as Tal-, El-, Bel-, Aeth- or Zen-, sometimes a single vowel in the middle, and a gendered ending such as -thaan, -ien, -essa or -el. The doubled vowel that the wiki’s named characters carry, as in Talaanis or Zendaraas, comes from that middle piece.
The start always ends in a consonant. Without that rule the middle vowel and an ending like -ien stack into three of the same letter, which is how you get names that look like typos instead of names.
How Skyborne Surnames Are Built
Every Skyborne surname on this page is a root plus an ending. The roots are sky, birds and weather: Nimbus, Crest, Feather, Hawk, Rain, Star, Wind. The endings are the same family: gale, breeze, whisper, wing, song, thread, crest. The small note beside each name shows which two parts were used.
